Across the world, the Bible is considered to be the most-read book of all times. It is also one of the most precious books, especially to those who experience persecution because they follow Christ. The Bible has the power to change lives and heal the sick. However, not every believer owns his or her own copy of the Word of God.
In many churches it is solely the pastor who owns a Bible. That copy is often worn because the people in the congregation pass it around in order to copy several pages at a time. This action continues week after week, month after month, until each member of an underground house church has his or her very own handwritten copy of the entire Bible.
The opportunity to obtain new Bibles depends on where people reside. The majority of those who live in Third World countries reside in the suburbs or countryside where resources are limited. For those who live in these rural areas, it is extremely difficult to acquire books and other reading material. Not only is it a challenge to get Bibles, but the safety of believers is particularly important.
